From Designer to Antiques

The Founder of Deep 6 Joey Wiles has a love for design and repurposing antiques. He strives to bring eclectic and modern together.

How we Started and Where we are Today

After graduating from MassArt in 2014, Joey Wiles decided to take his industrial design degree and open Deep 6. The name comes from an old nautical term meaning to throw overboard, and Deep 6 Goods takes the old and discarded and repurposes it into something functional for the home.

Joey opened the initial storefront in 2016 in the South End of Burlington Vermont. It started as mostly picked items of industrial nature with a few of Joey’s creations mixed in such as lamps and furniture. His mom a local artist joined as well, creating soft goods for the home with a handmade and vintage style. After the first year Joey was receiving more attention and started creating custom furniture designs for local clients. The store became a total hybrid antique store combining unique finds, created originals. repurposed items, and local artists work.

Due to ever increasing rent and the struggle of daily in person retail the store front closed in 2019. Joey then shifted to sell within a local vintage home goods store Barge Canal Market. The move enabled Deep 6 to become more exposed in an established storefront, and Joey was able to focus on expanding the custom business and making more pieces with design at the center. The vintage repurposed element still remains in his work at Barge Canal and age and character always comes through with his creations. Today his workshop in Milton serves as his center of design and fabrication, while his mom Laura works in Williston at her home studio. Deep 6 can still be found within Barge Canal Market, and you can now shop their selection of handmade home goods online, or order a unique piece of custom furniture.
